A-kon 21 Photos
We spent the weekend of June 3-6 in Dallas at the downtown Sheraton hotel for A-kon 21. This is an anime/comic convention, now in its 21st year (obviously). There were literally scores of costumes — there were probably as many people in costume as there were out of it. I ...

I Think He Saved Me
Yesterday, as I was on my way to my therapy appointment, I stopped at the corner store for a Pepsi. I pulled out of the parking lot and was sitting at the 4-way stop prior to entering the freeway, when I felt something sharp poking me in the ass. I ...

Filtered: A Rare Glimpse
Two more photos — these are the three of us hanging out on Susan's screened in porch on a typical Friday night. The pics are both (L to R) Tina, me, and Susan, untouched and glamour-free, no makeup, not even a comb applied before the pics were shot. I'm even ...

We Placed . . . Third
Well, my hopes were dashed but everyone in our court agreed we should've placed at least second in the Road Kill Chairs competition. The term "Road Kill Chair" is meant to imply that the artist take a cast-off chair, such as one found in a garage sale, and turn it ...

Painting Project Photos
My brother recruited me about a month ago to paint some furniture for him. He lucked into some furniture by some elite artist for his resale shop, and decided I'd be handy to paint some up for sale. I checked out the website, which I can't find now. I can't ...

Kitties Rule, Except For That Awful Smell
Hey folks, long time no anything! I thought you might like to see a couple of pictures of the new kittens, who are 8 weeks and 1 day old. We have four, all males, and they've officially entered the cute overload stage. They do little hopping attacks and leaps, graceful ...

Filtered: Oh The Inanity!
So much for posting more this month, eh? I am "full of fail," as my daughter says, on that note. But so much is going on, it's really out of my hands for now. Read on for details. It rained here Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and on Saturday it really came ...

Moved! and New Year, and Photos
Moved! This site has been moved to a new hosting company and a new server. There was some down time last night because I got sucked into watching Leverage with my daughter. We watched 3 episodes on the DVR, and then I checked the site to find a database error. Fixed ...

Errors on the Internet
Well, it seems that my information was in error. I found the star info on some website purporting to share celestial events, but it wasn't an astronomy site. I wasn't able to find squat online for "stars December 2008" anywhere else on Google, which is just weird. Maybe it was ...

Stars Tonight Were Amazing
I've never tried to photograph the stars before, but tonight as we came home from dinner, I marveled at the brightness of one near the moon. I knew it had to be a planet, but still I'd never seen a display like this before. It was huge, much brighter than ...

Successful Fundraiser
I'm thrilled to announce that the fundraiser has been a smashing success! You folks are so generous and compassionate, and I am very grateful to each of you. Thank you so much! My account is out of the red and into the black by enough to save me from panicking ...

Review: Spookers Terror Dome
Spookers Terror Dome 16020 East Freeway (I-10) Channelview, TX 281.860.9800 In Houston, Texas, this year, there is a new haunted attraction that's stolen the dripping, bloody hearts of the local critics. The Houston Chronicle has billed Spookers Terror Dome as the “Scariest Haunted House in Houston.” In its first year of operation, the Terror ...

Amazing Honor of Nature
The most amazing thing happened a few minutes ago. My daughter called me outside to see a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, and I managed to nab a few photos. Below are the best of the bunch, including one with another butterfly hanging around for moral support. I’m amazed and honored.

Hasta la vista, George Carlin
George Carlin has passed into the Great Beyond, where I'm sure he arrived with a glint in his eye, ready to take inventory of the pleasures and irritations of a new level of reality. For my part, I'm very sorry to see him go, as he was a voice I ...

Joey Was Here
Among the stranger synchronicities of recent days, today I found myself Wiki-ing Joey Ramone, who has been on my mind all night, only to discover that today is his birthday. He would have been 57 this year, which makes him ten years older than I am. Or would have. Once during ...

Los Angeles: City of the Soulsuckers
Here there be random bitching about celebrity. Annie Leibovitz is a world-renowned photographer who was créme de la créme when I first started reading Rolling Stone magazine in the mid-70s. Who the hell are the Moral Majority to criticize a goddess such as she? Why in the hell should she apologize? ...

Because I’m feeling a little whiny, and because I want to try out the Wordpress 2.5 gallery feature, I’m going to share with you the pathetic state of my pantry. I wrote an email to my mom, earlier: My cupboards are seriously bare. I’m down to odd bits like jello, margarine, ...
