I’ve never tried to photograph the stars before, but tonight as we came home from dinner, I marveled at the brightness of one near the moon. I knew it had to be a planet, but still I’d never seen a display like this before. It was huge, much brighter than a plane that passed nearby (from our view, of course), and had that classic “north star” shape, though it was in the southwestern sky. I’m very close to an enormous major city, so seeing any stars is a big deal. To have one so bright is unheard of.
I took a dozen photos with a tripod on various settings. Here are two, cropped for space and so on. Evidently, the bright star below the moon is Venus, and the bright star above the moon is Jupiter:
This next shot I’ve included because the color came out so different. It shows the hazy ring around the moon – those are not clouds.
Now that’s a bright star.
