Infinite Distractions
In my quest to find a tolerable theme for this blog until I have time to design my own, I’ve jumped to four different possibilities in the last couple of weeks. I decided the “garden” theme was too frilly and it looks bright lime green on a crt monitor – not cool. And I need three columns due to all my sidebar content that I don’t want to sacrifice. So… for now I’m going with a relatively minimalist theme until I can get it together to make my own.
I’d welcome comments regarding your ideas of what a “freaky” blog (that’s Cally lol) should look like. Suggestions for colors, mood, et al would be great.
In other news, in the last 24 hours I have been really sick. Suffice to say it’s digestive related (Annie Bones says anyone born with Pluto in Virgo – like me – are prone to digestive problems) and it was really gross. I wanted to die a number of times, because throwing up is the worst thing in the world for me. I’ll take just about any pain over that.
I’m in recovery mode – I finally ate a thinly spread pb&j sandwich about an hour ago. I still have problems with pain and the runs, but at least it’s staying down, so far. I’d pay a lot to have a comprehensive list of what not to eat. I can never tell what’s going to sit well and what isn’t. I think this time it was either broccoli or Oreos. Oreos are now a thing of the past, and I’m going to have to research the broccoli.
I don’t want to lose broccoli.
Oh and it stormed a lot this week; we’ve flooded twice. Weirdest August ever.
I’ll be back soon! Leave me lots of love! *smooch*
If you have something to say, I'd appreciate it if you commented at the blog.

1. The blog should look however the hel you like.
2. UGH on the health front. Broccoli does have its certain reputation. Have you ever used charcoal when having stomach issues? You can get it in capsule form.
Yuck, digestive ills are the worst. Me, personally, I would rather give up the broccoli than the oreos. but whatever caused it, I hope you figured it out soon. Feel better.
@Soli: I haven’t tried that. What does it do? I know they give activated charcoal when they want to make someone vomit in the ER.
@Lavana: Yeah, Oreos are gonna be sad to give up, but at least it doesn’t mean all cookies. Broccoli only comes in one flavor. LOL
What the charcoal is supposed to do is soak up any toxins in your system. So whatever it is making your body react won’t be a factor anymore, and it does eventually pass out of the system with minimal fuss.
@Soli: Interesting. I’ll have to look into that.
Thanks!
On the oreos, I don’t know what in them hurts you but there are these really good Paul Newman-Os that have less irritants in them. I used to eat them because they have no milk in them.
I love the layout you’re using right now. I hope you feel better.
@Aydira: Yeah, I am lactose intolerant. So that could be a big part of it.
Actually, let me add on the oreo front. I stopped eating them a LONG time ago and now with my having cut out high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated fats they would taste atrocious to me. If you can’t do milk, let me suggest hydrox, which are vegan and do taste good, or the newman-o’s.
@Soli: Are you a vegan? I’d like to change my diet to as natural as possible while continuing to eat meat and the dairy I can tolerate. I’ve been buying free-range eggs, for instance. But I have a severely limited income (SSDI & SSI) so I can’t afford to eat all fresh foods. The crap in a box foods are so cheap — it’s much of why poor folks are fat and in bad health, unfortunately.
What advice would you give to someone who wanted to gradually shift to a more healthy, natural diet — e.g. where to research most affordable alternatives, and so forth? I despise tofu unless it’s a small ingredient in other foods, and likewise rarely taste a vegan alternative that I like, so it’d have to be gradual to acclimate my tastes.
This layout is in its own way freaky, considering how minimalist it is!
I agree with Soli that you should go with what pleases you … maybe find a simple layout (like this one) and then just change the colors or add a bit here and there as suits your mood or the season or whatever. I know the last thing you want to have to worry about is fussing with how your blog *looks*.
I don’t honestly pay a lot of attention to the background anyway, I’m here for the text.
On the diet front, I am an omnivore but not keen on meat in hot weather. So I wind up doing a lot with beans, and while there is the gas factor, black beans especially are quite healthy.
My whole diet change has been gradual over several years, and I agree that limited income really can hamper a desire for healthy eating. The core things I did:
1. Cut out soda
2. Uptake in water consumption
3. Label reading and not touching anything with hydrogenated oils. This translated into cutting out most “junk” food. Then I cut out high fructose corn syrup and that cut out even more food.
4. I don’t eat a lot of sugar now. To sweeten coffee and tea I use Stevia (not cheap, I admit it), and if I bake with sugar I do buy organic.
One recommendation I’ve seen for food shopping is to simply not go down the middle lanes of the supermarket and just shop along the edges. Very cool with the free range eggs–I’ve also found they taste a LOT better.
@Cally: Aww, that is the best compliment ever!
@Soli: Yeah the soda bit is hardest. I’m admittedly addicted. But I will definitely consider all this, because my body is not happy with my current habits. Thanks very much for the input.
