Shameless Pimping
Anyone who enjoys this blog should consider voting for it at the Blogger's Choice Awards. I've got 15 votes for Freakiest Blogger, and don't really stand a prayer of getting first place, but hey, it's fun to try. The leading Freaky blog currently has 152 votes, so if you care, ...

Still Going: The Energizer Sheta
Well, I may not be that manic, but at least I'm still getting up in the morning rather than in the afternoon. I woke up at 8:30 a.m. after dreaming I'd slept til 3 – woke up with a panicked jolt, in fact. I gathered up a bunch of books ...

So Very Busy, and Feeling Great About It
A quote that Maainakhtsen posted on LJ: "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." -Albert Einstein Very nice. Good motto material, too. I've been busting ass around the homefront this week with ...

Internet Outtage Oh Noes
My internet's been out for two days. I had to get a new modem, again. So now I'm back, but too busy with mundane issues this week to get to much until probably Friday. I'll answer comments then. :) My feed jumped up to 282 today. Awesome!

One Reason to Care
The New York Times online this morning featured an article on the Louisiana coast and the marshes populated by Cajuns who settled there over two hundred years ago. The land there was once replenished regularly by sediment deposits left behind when the Mississippi River overflowed and receded. Seventy years ago, ...

An Old Quote From Meridjet
This was waiting for me on the next day of the archives, when I looked at the tab I never closed yesterday. The post is from November 3, 2003 but the quote is older. I found it then, in an old email. I don't relate to who I was a few ...

Layout Complete
So, I finished the blog theme I started last night. It only took about 10 hours longer than I anticipated. :P I'm torn on the banner. What do you think of it? Is it too amateurish? I've stripped the moods from my posts since they duplicated themselves up to five times ...

Halloweens of Yore, and Spirit-Induced UTIs
This post is from November 2, 2003 (the one I just posted was from October of 2003, but the events themselves were four years prior). I'm going to bed in a minute but wanted to leave one more Meridjet-related story before I went. I'm trying to sleep forward; sleep deprivation ...

Angels? Or Something
I'm looking at the next post in the archives (moving from most distant past, forward) of my old LiveJournal and it's a post from 2003 regarding an angelic visitation in 1999. I was doing daily LBRP and other rituals at that time, and so was accustomed to seeing manifestations of ...

Blog Days
I've often seen other blogs with days of the week assigned to various tasks, for example the very popular Thankful Thursday. I've considered doing something like this, but I didn't want it to become a chore. It strikes me that, particularly with regard to gratitude, making these posts some sort ...

Infinite Distractions
In my quest to find a tolerable theme for this blog until I have time to design my own, I've jumped to four different possibilities in the last couple of weeks. I decided the "garden" theme was too frilly and it looks bright lime green on a crt monitor – ...

Project: Dare to Be Different EntreCard Drop Group
After a lot of consideration, I've elected to start an EntreCard drop group for those with unusual blogs, or for blogs by people who aren't afraid to put themselves out there for the world to see – regardless of their more unusual traits. If you or your blog fits this ...

The Filtering Has Begun
I've posted a filtered post. Log in, and if you can see a post called, "Just For A Test," please leave a comment there and let me know. Thanks! As I mentioned previously, anyone not registered on this blog and logged in when they come to read, will not see any ...

A Rarity - Quiz, But It Nailed Me
The Part of You That No One Sees You are compassionate, caring, and soothing. You like other people to depend on you... In fact, you don't feel right unless you are helping someone out. Underneath it all, you feel the burden of everyone's problems. Without your guidance, you fear that many people's worlds would fall ...

Pot Prohibition Leads to Death via Police Blackmail
Police caught Hoffman with pot but promised to drop charges if she agreed to go undercover in a drug bust. She was killed soon afterward. Rachel Hoffman is dead. Rachel Hoffman, like many young adults, occasionally smoked marijuana. But Rachel Hoffman is not dead as a result of smoking marijuana; she is ...

Crocodile and Alligator Energy
I often dream of alligators. I've dreamed of them for years. In these dreams, typically there will be a river or stream that has alligators lined nose-to-tail all the way down the banks on either one or both sides of the river. Sometimes they're along the side of the road, ...

Spoiler-Free Mini Movie Reviews
The Dark Knight I saw this on opening weekend. It's taken up until now to recover from the hot villainy goodness that is Heath Ledger's Joker. I predicted immediately that Ledger will replace Brandon Lee as tragic goth hero who died before his darkest role was unveiled (if not necessarily Ledger's ...

Anyone Hungry?
I got ambitious today, partly to prepare fresher, more nutritious food and partly to help Kara diet. But I spent 2 ½ hours making various homemade Chinese dishes. I made stir fry, of course, but I also made fried rice, lo mein, egg rolls from scratch, and cream cheese won ...

We’re Still Here
Thanks to all the well-wishers. The storm hit this morning, and we ended up with well over 4 inches of rain. The water did come into the apartment, but that isn't something that bothers me much anymore as if left alone, it takes care of itself and all I have ...

I Fail at Napping, But Win at Getting Up
Well, the nap plan didn't work out, but I did get the loose items weighted down or picked up. Unless the storm is strong enough to pick up 20 or 30 lbs, I figure I'm good. I tied the garbage cans to the porch rails. It's fairly sheltered there. I've installed ...

There’s A Storm Comin’ and We’d All Best Be Ready When She Does
The tropical storm known as Edouard (that's not a typo) is hovering off the coast of Texas/Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico and is due to hit here tomorrow. And when I say, "here," I do mean here. Observe: That star is the location of my house. Though Edouard (I guess ...

Amazing Honor of Nature
The most amazing thing happened a few minutes ago. My daughter called me outside to see a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, and I managed to nab a few photos. Below are the best of the bunch, including one with another butterfly hanging around for moral support. I’m amazed and honored.
